Small Sculptural Vessel by Roshni Senapati
These hand crafted ceramic sculptures by Brisbane artist Roshni Senapati explore the idea of memory, cultural connection and family history. Like all of Roshni's work, The Small Sculptural Vessel consists of two materials, porcelain and repurposed silk thread.
These tall cylindrical vessels are figurative, leaning, swaying or bending, sometimes alone, but more often in conversation with others, evoking relatives at a family gathering. Working with thin, soft slabs of rolled porcelain allows Roshni to imbue the forms with a sense of human movement and create a subtle body language. Openings that have crisp corners like shirt collars or softly draped shawl necklines further allude to the human form. Repurposed silk threads knotted into the fired ceramic vessels add the finishing touch. The threads are drawn from saris, handwoven textiles and embroidery threads collected by Roshni's mother, who lives with her. They offer a direct touchpoint between her mother's hand-work and her practice.
The Small Sculptural Vessel is sold individually, but we recommend pairing it with the Tall Sculptural Vessel.
