Gourd Sculptures
Gourd [gawrd] (noun): a fleshy, typically large fruit with a hard skin, some varieties of which are edible (don't eat ours!). Occasionally used to describe the fruit in the family Cucurbitaceae, such as cucumbers, squash, melons and pumpkins, they're shapely and they're kooky, some are even spooky!
Paying homage to the tradition and craftsmen of glassblowing, Lewis Batchelar drew inspiration from the anthropomorphic nature of gourds and cacti to Gourd family - a composition of quirky objects to reflect notions of family.
